I love knitting! Though my current project is a bit too complex for me to work on like that where I might have to randomly set it down in the middle - I'm terrible at counting stitches and if I did that I know I'd mess it up.
I am, however, working on a simple shawl for my sister and a Jayne hat (from Firefly) for a friend that are mindless enough knitting that I sometimes pick them up and work on them while waiting to get in a group for JQ or other random times like that.
Also, dying yarn is fun. I need to pick up some more plain white wool so I can do that again.

Well thanks for the responses.
I am always amazed at how crafty people are!.
Yes I am not your mother! I have tried to knit myself but the only thing that I liked was casting on!
Its my wife that loves to knit. She made me a fantastic red Cardigan for the winter months. Its wool and very heavy. Very kewl.
Crochet is also very neat and can be faster than knitting...

I learned how to crochet when I was a kid (my aunt taught me when I had chicken pox, so I'd have something to occupy myself with so I'd stop driving my family insane...) but I haven't done that in years.
I have so many half-finished knitting projects though XD

Oh I know all about half-finished projects Verene!!! LOL My problem is....'what should I do tonight? Knit or play GW?' More often than not, it's play GW. And thus I don't get many things finished!

I haven't knitted in over 15 years, I prefer sewing. Now my sister... she is the yarn enthusiast. I swear her stash is growing larger as I type. But I do have to admit that glow-in-the-dark yarn at $1.50 a ball is a great deal.

as a fiber art major in college (yeah I love yarn-all kinds of yarn) I was mostly a weaver, however, I also learned to crochet as a kid as well as knit....in college I met a student who wanted to learn to knit, she says 'I'm a lefty' so I taught myself to knit left-handed and then taught her (was pretty easy to switch hands).
In high school Dr Who (Tom Baker) was very popular and he had this really long ---like 12 feet or so, scarf....there was a pattern for it, however, I didnt have the colors to begin with so I used what I had.....finished it and then bought the right colors---so I made 2 of them in college while in study halls!
dont do much knitting now

oh my god, your a man!
i love crochet, i learned that when i was 8. We pester our math teacher who is forever crocheting even when she is teaching to teach us. she agreed, ask us to bring a crochet needle and a ball of yarn, and she will teach us to make hat, the next week.
next week, i went to school with both the needle and a ball of green yarn. everyone laugh at me, i was clueless as to whats so funny about my ball of green yarn.
Chinese proverbs/idioms/sayings, whatever you called it. making a green hat for a man is cheating on them.

Well yes I am a man as a matter of a fact, an old one that like Toques!! I like ones with pom poms or without pom poms. Blue ones, green ones or get this...
I asked Oly to make me a Toque once and I got to choose the YARN!!! it is ORANGE and GREEN and Purple. It was fantastic!! Almost glows in the dark... now where is that toque.....

Sweet. A great way to keep your head warm and have a past time.
I do like knitted socks too. I can remember first putting my brand new socks on - oly knitted those for me too - and thinking WOW these actually fit!!!
